Job Overview

The Director of Public Relations (PR) focuses on both client and agency communications and media relations. This individual is a seasoned public relations professional that is well-versed in traditional media, using PR tactics as a leading tool to elevate our clients’ and agency communications. The PR Director is responsible for general project management for PR communications initiatives, message development, partnering with client internal teams, agency leadership, trend pitching, comms planning, proposal development, and more.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop overall PR strategy for agency and clients
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with client partners and key stakeholders
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of agency’s products and services
  • Corresponds and partners with regional PR teams to support effective company operations
  • Secures and provides counsel to leadership for various press opportunities
  • Composes accurate, well-written press materials
  • Corresponds with the press as a client representative, as needed
  • Arranges and manages participation in events, press tours and interviews
  • Interfaces with client teams to gather data and craft messaging for strategy and writing assignments
  • Answers written interview questions about the client company as needed
  • Compiles press coverage and prepare detailed executive summaries
  • Coordinates PR efforts between different departments within client organization
  • Travels domestically as required
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned

 

Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
  • Proven experience in public relations or consumer brand marketing, preferably with an agency
  • Passion for executing with excellence and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while consistently maintaining a proactive approach
  • Team-oriented personality
  • Strong project management, budget management, time management and organization skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead and manage direct reports; mentoring to facilitate career growth
  • Able to quickly compose and edit a variety of creative and business-oriented texts that meet company standards on deadline.
  • Excellent presenter with strong interpersonal, written, and persuasive verbal communications skills
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Business acumen

  • Strong relationships and robust list of contacts with journalists/media representing variety of industries and beats
  • History of collaboration with cross-functional teams and agency partners, with the ability to transform complex concepts into accessible consumer messages

  • Proactive team player with a demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate relationships, support cross-functional objectives and balance/blend various needs and views into an effective PR strategy/plan
  • Results-driven strategic thinker with a strong media relations and crisis communications background
  • A modern communicator with interest and experience in leveraging integrated campaigns
  • Assertive self-starter who can work independently; able to effectively handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and problem-solve on the fly
  • Consistent “can-do” attitude with the ability to adapt and deliver under pressure

 

Location / Hours / Travel

This is a full-time position. We are a hybrid team working remotely, but with expectations to meet in person at least once a week or as often as necessary for client/project goals and face time.
