Public Relations Specialist
Job Overview
The Public Relations (PR) Specialist is a creative storyteller and supports the Senior PR Specialist and/or Public Relations Manager in developing and driving PR plans and strategic initiatives, managing media relations, enhancing clients’ and agency’s voice through various channels, writing PR copy, planning and attending events/trade shows/media missions, and analyzing public opinion to maintain positive public awareness of the agency and its clients’ brands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the development of PR strategies.
- Manages day-to-day PR projects and activities, driving high-impact results staying consistent with current trends and media opportunities.
- Leverages existing media relationships and maintains media lists, securing high-level placements in target media outlets through creative and timely pitching.
- Develops and executes press materials: press releases, media alerts, talking points, briefing books, etc.
- Monitors and manages editorial calendars, inquiries from various media services and event listings.
- Develops and manages client content/pitching calendars.
- Coordinates and manages media inquiries, social influencer campaigns (in collaboration with Augustine’s digital department).
- Manages media coverage, press rooms and weekly, monthly or quarterly reports.
- Supports crisis communications strategy and management as needed.
- Assists in development of creative initiatives supporting agency new business opportunities.
- Participates in client-facing status calls to deliver project updates and ensure alignment.
- Represents the agency and assigned clients at relevant industry events, fostering brand awareness and building valuable industry relationships, as applicable.
- Spearheads media familiarization (FAM) tours, including vetting potential participants, developing itineraries and meticulously organizing logistics.
Qualifications / Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
- 3-5 years related experience; agency experience preferred
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of traditional and digital PR, as well as social media platforms and trends
- Strong media relations skills and proven track record of media placements required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, knowledge of AP Style
- Experience with both B2C and B2B media outlets and freelance writers
- Strong media contacts in the tourism and/or food/beverage/CPG verticals preferred
- Knowledge of Muck Rack and/or related public relations and earned media software preferred
- Proactive with an extreme attention to detail, consistently meeting tight deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance to clients
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Ability to work in variety of settings – in office, remote and on location for client meetings, media events, trade shows, etc.
Location / Hours / Travel
This is a full-time position. We are a hybrid team working remotely, but with expectations to meet in person at least once a week or as often as necessary for client/project goals and face time.
