Supporting the California Hospitality and Tourism Industry, One Bite at a Time…

With more than 76,000 restaurants in California as of 2019, it’s no surprise that eating out plays a major role in the California economy. And with tourism having screeched to a halt, or at least a pause, it’s become crucial for us California residents to step up by ordering the occasional meal to-go. We’re faced with so many challenges and sobering updates on a daily basis that “taking one for the team” by getting our nom on is one task we’ll happily get behind.

A little about us — we live for travel, and our destination clients are extremely close to our hearts. (And our stomachs! We love eating out during client visits to Conejo Valley, Downtown Napa, Torrance, North Lake Tahoe, Yolo County, Tuolumne County and more). Part of our recovery efforts for each destination’s content strategy has been to encourage local residents (and eventually the drive market) to support local businesses. And as always, we seek to incorporate the larger framework of industry partner, Visit California. Last month, Visit California launched #CATakeoutTuesday, a program rooted in activating local communities and encouraging California residents to order takeout from their favorite local restaurants each Tuesday.

“California Takeout Tuesday (#CATakeoutTuesday) aims to encourage consumers to exercise their sense of civic pride and love for California’s culinary prowess. The effort will draw support from the California Now Blog, which will share human interest stories from the front lines.”

Our team has not only built social media content to support this tasty initiative for each of our clients, we’ve also, as lucky California residents, done our part to patronize restaurants ourselves, via delivery and takeout options. Beyond giving us a break from our kitchens (Do not show me another dirty pan! Do not…show me…another…. *Shields eyes with hand.* Pan.), it helps lessen the financial and human blow to our beloved restaurant industry.

Many of us are fortunate to live in (and some near 🙂) the Farm-to-Fork capital, with countless options to keep us satisfied. Sometimes though, options are overwhelming, and that’s where we come in. Our team is scattered all throughout the Greater Sacramento area and beyond, so we have restaurant recommendations that range from Downtown Sacramento to Auburn – even all the way to Monterey – Bon Appétit!

“Our favorite spot is called Tin Lantern Bar & Grill in Meadow Vista. It used to be our little date night spot, but since COVID-19 hit, they’ve started offering everything to go. There isn’t a bad thing on the menu and they even have various specials each week if you want to try something new. It’s just about 10 minutes from our house and we love supporting the family-owned business. They have a great wine selection and are known for their rare offerings of whiskey. The desserts are delicious too – the Almond Tart is amazing. I don’t share a single bite, haha.”

“Our favorite takeout spot is Crepes & Burgers in Citrus Heights. It’s right around the block from us, they have a large menu and EVERYTHING is delicious! Finishing up whatever your main entrée is with a dessert crepe can’t be beat!”

Zócalo in Roseville is one of my favorite local spots! Their food is delicious as always and it’s been really easy to order them through this difficult time. I recommend anything spicy! They are also offering a Taco Tuesday Special right now that includes a margarita, a taco bar with all the fixings, black beans, cilantro lime rice and chips and salsa for 2 people. Yum!!!”

Porter’s House of Draft in Roseville– It’s our favorite local spot with a super friendly staff. They have typical pub food, but then these really amazing options like smoked brisket, DBLT, which is like a standard BLT, but with organic duck bacon candied in a spicy glaze. And they have an amazing beer selection so we love being able to have great food and try out new beers. Plus, they’re kid-friendly and my daughter loves the corn dogs.”

Chando’s Tacos has been a staple in Sacramento for years, but it wasn’t until just recently that they opened a Cantina in El Dorado Hills, making them dangerously accessible for curb-side takeout. The mulitas are to die for, and did I mention you can get margaritas by the mason jar full??”
